Swimming in lake Bohinj

Swimming in Lake Bohinj: Where to swim and water temperature

Lake Bohinj is one of the best places for open-water swimming in Slovenia. In summer, the lake becomes a refreshing place to swim, especially if you prefer a more natural setting over busy resort-style beaches.

Some parts of the shore feel livelier and easier to access. Others stay quieter, with more space and a calmer atmosphere. That makes a difference, especially if you want a slower lake day.

Can you swim in Lake Bohinj?

Yes. Swimming in Lake Bohinj is popular from late spring to early autumn, with the main season running from June to September. The lake is clean, clear, and naturally cooler than many lowland swimming spots, which is part of its appeal in summer.

If you want the lake at its warmest, July and August are usually the best months. If you prefer fewer people, late June and early September often feel more balanced.

RibČev Laz

Ribčev Laz is the easiest starting point for many visitors. It offers convenient access to the shore, a more active summer atmosphere, and one of the best-known views across the lake.

Ukanc

Ukanc feels quieter and more open. The western side of Lake Bohinj is a good choice if you want a calmer place to swim, with less movement around you and a stronger sense of being close to nature.

Stara FuŽina

Stara Fužina is a good option for a slower stop by the lake. Some entry points feel easier, and the area suits visitors who prefer a more relaxed pace by the water.
